Budget Live Session held at SMS Varanasi

Budget Live was organised in School of Management Sciences (SMS), Varanasi on Thursday, 1st February, 2018 involving the post-gradute management students apart from the faculty members of the Institute.

After the live telecast of the Union Budget presented by the Finance Minister, Shri Arun Jaitely, Dr. Raghuvir Kaur (Asstt. Professor) highlighted the provisions in the healthcare sector and said that only few countries in the world have opened up avenues for its citizens in the social security involving food and healthcare. She opined that the announcement of National Health Protection Scheme, which is aimed to eventually benefit around 50 crores people is a unique and bold step by Modi led government at the centre. Shri Amit Kishore Sinha (Asstt. Professor) discussed the fiscal data of the finance bill and explained to the students how these could lead to better GDP growth in the time to come. No major change in the direct taxation is another indicator of the government’s move towards financial consolidation which has been witnessed also through recapitalisation measures done by the government in the banking sector. Shri Kartikeya Singh (Asstt. Professor) commented on the provisions in the educational sector involving the integrated B.Ed. programme, Eklavya programme, RISE and PM Fellow Scheme for engineering researches and teaching saying that these would have a positive impact in the teaching-learning quality in the country.

The Dean (R&D) Prof. Alok Kumar said that this budget could be a boon to the agricultural and the MSME sectors as the mentioned provisions give an indicator about the upcoming innovations and expected revolutions in the blue, green and the brown economies involving aquaculture, agriculture and bamboo economy respectively.

On this occasion, the Director Prof. P. N. Jha announced a ‘Budget Competition’ wherein the students would be presenting their own interpretations and would be competiting for various prizes later on. The Executive Secretary Dr. M. P. Singh, Registrar Shri Sanjay Gupta along with other faculty members were also present in this special programme.
