Most MBA graduates are confident, professional and they give very successful interviews. However, there is one crucial step that some might fail to acknowledge and this might potentially cost them the job, even if they had a very good interview. This crucial step is sending a well-crafted follow-up letter after the email, which will set the candidate apart from others thereby giving him an advantage. There are three main rules to follow when crafting a thank you letter:

- The thank-you letter should be sent promptly. The deadline for responding to the interview is extremely short, and therefore, the candidate should send the thank-you letter as soon as possible. The thank-you note should be sent no later than 48 hours of the interview, as any later would severely decrease the chances of the candidate getting hired.
- It should have an impact on the hiring manager. A thank-you note is a great opportunity to gain an advantage over other candidates. The note should be tailored to the needs of the company and the job position, with the candidate focusing on how he understands the challenges that come with the job. He should demonstrate how he understands the needs of the position and how excited he is to tackle the problems. The note should be short and the re-listing of achievements and qualifications should be avoided.
