Leading Business School of the country, School
of Management Sciences witnessed the majestic closing
of the 3rd PGDM Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, November
5th 2011. The students of the previous batches of various
PGDM programs participated with full nerve in this ceremony.
Total 1315 students from different courses of PGDM, PGDM
(International Business), PGDM (Retail Management), PGDM
(Insurance & Risk Management) were awarded the degrees.
The toppers from the different academic sessions received
Gold medals and Silver medals.
During the convocation address Honorable Dr. Rakesh
Dhar Tripathi, Minister of Higher Education, Govt of U.P.
linked the success of the students with the sincere
efforts of the institution. Dr. Tripathi remembering the
great educationist Madan Mohan Malviya said that the blessings
given by Justice Giridhar Malviya will
be an inspiration for all of the students and will lead
to the success in their life. Remembering his students life
he said that this convocation ceremony organized by SMS
will always be memorable. He also said that our culture
& tradition is the backbone of our society and it should
be upheld at any cost. This convocation ceremony is a symbol
of our traditional learning. He told the students to live
and enjoy fully this moment of success. This moment is the
symbol of glorious relationship that exists between the
education and the students. In his presidential address,
Justice Giridhar Malaviya, President Mahamana Malaviya
Mission said that the country has progressed in
the last decade but the problems of poverty and curruption
is still a dominent problem in the society. Justice Malviya
further said that there is an urgent need of inculcating
an education system which can help in building character
among people and better citizens. He urged the students
to use their knowledge to create maximum economic value
with social justice for the larger welfare of the people
in particular and of the society at large.
Blessing
the students, Honorable Padamshree Prof.Geshe. N.
Samten, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Tibetan Studies,
Varanasi said that an emotional balance in the
global world at different levels is important in order to
achieve greater heights in life. Emotional regulation will
help to make a better educated citizen and will result in
building a better society. Prof. Samten further said that
the students are very fortunate that they gained knowledge
in the city which has been the seat of learning since ancient
times and are honored on the land where Lord Buddha gave
his first sermon at Sarnath.
Speaking on this pious occasion, former Prof. B.
P. Singh, Delhi School of Economics, New Delhi said
that SMS is one of the leading institutions imparting management
education in India and to be a student of SMS is an honour,
Prof. Singh further said that those who had been apart of
this Institution in the past are working at higher positions
in corporate India successfully and contributing in the
economic development of the country. At the end, Prof.
S. K. Singh, Head & Dean, FMS, B.H.U. Varanasi
congratulated the students and said that convocation ceremony
is an important memory of one's life to be cherised all
through life. Prof. Singh said that according to a recent
survey the quality of education is a concern and therefore
the course curriculum should be revisited and redesigned
according to the requirements of the industry.
Earlier the convocation ceremony began with the assembly
of the members of the Governing Council and Academic
Council, Distinguished Guests, Faculty Members and Students
in the administrative block, formation of Procession and
its arrival at the venue of convocation. After the Saraswati
Vandana, Prof. P. N. Jha during his welcome
speech informed about the achievements of the School of
Management Sciences over the years including the research
work, publications, academic aggrements with the international
universities world wide and the industrial visits organised
for the students.
During the convocation ceremony Mr. Sanjay Gupta,
Registrar, SMS read the names of students who topped
the different PGDM programs and 18 Gold medals and
18 Silver medals were awarded to them. In the convocation
the new issues of the three SMS Journals "Management
Insight," "Computing Trends" and "Purushartha"
were also released by the Chief Guest and the other distinguished
guests. Dr. M. P. Singh, Executive Secretary, SMS
& Mr. Ashok Singh, Chairman of SMS, felicitated
the Chief Guest and the other distinguished guests seated
on the Dias with a SMS memento of Lord Vishwanath, Shawl
and a special memento of Ashok Stambha. The convocation
ceremony concluded with the National Anthem. The program
was coordinated by Dr. Meenakshi Singh, Senior Lecturer,
SMS. The Convener of the Convocation Ceremony was
Mr. Alok Kumar, Associate Professor, SMS.
