All about Mass Communication
This article is specifically for those students out there who are wandering like anything, thinking that taking arts is a huge fuss. Well according to me, taking humanities is the best thing that you did, because humanities is the only stream that opens up the gate of everywhere. There is no such stream, course or etc. that you can’t pursue after doing arts in your +2. But after doing arts, the main story line begins as from now on whatever course, whatever direction you will opt for, that will be stuck with you. So as we all are aware of a bunch of common degrees and courses like BA, BBA, BFA, BHM, BEM, etc. I would like to talk about mass communication. As the present era is turning into a confident world, mass communication has opened there gates for all. But to understand what mass communication is, and what it is all about, let me explain you the same. So when we hear the word, “mass communication” we simply think it as ‘mass’ can be defined as people and communication is something that we all are aware of. Well for a layman, mass communication is all about spreading news, facts, sharing knowledge with people. But when we move towards its course, many students think of mass communication as only and only journalism or becoming a news reporter. So let me tell you the all in package of mass com. Eligibility:
- The student should have completed his or her 10+2 from any recognized educational institute.
- The student should have a minimum score of 55% in his or her +2.
- With B.A. (the course will be of 3 years)
- With M.A. (the course will be of 2 years)
- Basic computer skills: it is very important to know the basic computer skills because as the present era is evolving, technology is becoming more advanced day by day, due to which, even for a layman, basic computer knowledge is a must.
- Introduction to mass communication: this is the subject from where the basics of mass communication begins.
- Media history: history is a World in itself. It is a very important subject to study, as history discovers “birth, meaning, life”. So in this subject we would be studying about the history related to media, the various developments, progresses we have made up till now.
- Design and graphics: in this subject, one gets to learn about how we organize things in such a way that we could sell it with the maximum mass presence.
- Photojournalism: as the name says, I think the subject is quiet clear. A journalism always requires a proof, because without proof, it becomes a fact not a statement.
- Project: each and every person in the field of mass communication is given a project, a deadline to work upon, this is what this subject is about. How you maintain, organize, complete the work as per the deadline with full satisfaction.
- Public relations: communication is the major key to implement and establish things and that is what is taught under public relations.
- Media law and ethics: Every subject, every sector has laws. Just like business law, there is a section for media law as well, where the tactics, the examples of various cases, studies can be seen. This subject teaches us the basic guidelines and the rules and regulations under which actions must be taken.
- Reporting and editing: it teaches us the various aspects regarding photography, journalism, editing, writing, etc.
- International relations: this subject revolves around political, environmental, physiological, sociological, etc.
- Environmental studies: this subject teaches us about all those aspects that we need to take precaution of while working towards a project.
- Development communication: this subject is all about how you market the content you want to.
- TV Production lab: it focuses on how one can work in the field.
- Digital Media: it includes all those media servers or technical skills through which one delivers his or her knowledge successfully to the mass.
- Making of news bulletin
- Soft skills: Soft skills can be defined as the interpersonal skills. These skills effect the working environment, these can be included as attitude, perspective, behavior, expressions, etc.
- Workshop on social media : as we all are aware that social media is engaging into our lives rapidly, delivering your knowledge to a platform like social media can help you gain a lot of viewers.
- Documentary project: In second year of college, it can be observed that a project is given to each student in which all those theoretical subjects that a student has studied up till now has to be converted into a practical form.
- Advertising principles and practices: Mass Communication is all about advertising, because in this, you have to deliver your knowledge to a large no. of masses. So studying about advertising principles and its practices is basic.
