According to Court News, in January 2016, there were 16,119 judges in the subordinate judiciary, 598 in high courts and 26 in the Supreme Court. CLAT stands for Common Law Admission Test, it is a centralized test for admission to 21 National Law Universities and 43 other education institutes. It is an exam to get admission in L.LB and post graduation course in Law. Earlier, there were autonomous Law colleges which had their own Law entrance exams but it used to clash with other competitive exams such as the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination and the All India Pre Medical Test.
