When you pass out of your school, all you think about is your next step, the college. You know you’re going to experience new and different things in college and your goal is to be successful and become whatever your heart desires. On your first day of college, you’re extremely nervous about almost everything but mostly about the course that you’ve selected and its subjects.

So, if you are interested in doing a BBA (Bachelor of Business Administration) or have chosen this course for your higher studies then I’m going to tell you more about this course in this article.

We are going to discuss in detail the first semester subjects of the BBA course so that you can get a brief idea about how the course is going to be from the beginning and are you interested in going further with it or not.

Subjects in the first semester of BBA

BBA is the course in which you study commerce. If you’ve studied commerce in your higher classes too in school then I’m sure you’d already have a brief idea about the program, right? So, let’s discuss the subjects that you are going to study in the first semester of the BBA.

  1. Management and Concepts

The subject of Management and Concepts is to help you understand every basic managing strategy to work in a company or organization or your own business. It focuses on organizing, division of labor, staffing, etc. You are already familiar with these terms but this subject explains them to you in an impeccable way and how to manage them too.

When you are working in a company or an organization, you should know how to organize things so that you wouldn’t create any panic in your workplace by chaotically doing work. Managing your workplace seems easy but it is very difficult and important too that’s why you’re taught this subject in the course. Even if you want to build your own business, management is the key, it is crucial to organize things, assigning work to the candidates according to their skills, make sure everybody is cooperating and coordinating with each other, etc.

These things sound very easy to manage but they are equally difficult when implemented in real-life. So, study this subject carefully and never take it lightly.

2. Business Economics

Coherent by the name itself, Business Economics focuses on the economy of the business. You learn about the rise and fall of the economy, GDP, microeconomics, macroeconomics, etc. It helps us to stay updated about all the economic changes happening in the country.

This subject starts from the basic of economics to the market equilibrium, demand change according to price, demand change according to other variables, supply change according to price, supply change according to different variables, Law of variable proportions, Law of DMU, i.e., Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility, degrees of price elasticity, demand elasticity, types of demand elasticity, what is business economics, how is business economics helpful to move towards the steps of success, etc.

So now you know, every aspect regarding the seller, buyer, the things we purchase, etc., are taught in this subject. For instance, if someone wants to start a business in the future, then he/ she should be aware of the concept of business, about the demand of people, about selling products. So, Business Economics is a constructive subject in the BBA degree program and after graduation, you’ll know everything about business because of this subject.

3. Financial accounting

Most of the students are scared of the subject, Accounts but it is the most important subject in business. This subject teaches you things like how to make a journal, how to make a ledger, what is bookkeeping, what is accounting, what are the objectives of accounting, what is the necessity of bookkeeping, what is a balance sheet, what is the use of a balance sheet, what is the difference between bookkeeping and accounting, what is depreciation, what are the issues that can be revealed in a balance sheet, and what are the problems which cannot be displayed in a balance sheet, accounting equation, etc.

After reading all this you must be thinking where would all this be useful in life? Let me tell you, you’re doing BBA for having an interest in business or working in a company right? Then all of this will be useful there only for maintaining bills and transactions that you will make.

For example, Suppose you are a shop owner and many people borrow goods and items from you the whole month and pay the bill at the end of the month. This will be a lot of data and you cannot save it in your mind, this is the reason why a balance sheet is required to record all the transactions of the customers.

Now you understand why Financial Accounting is a very important subject in BBA.

4. Statistics

The subject of Statistics is a branch of mathematics. Statistics is taught in school till 10th class but you must be thinking why it is taught in BBA too, right? Well, statistics are very useful in business also. It is not just maths but also a collection of data in comparative results. This subject is handy and helpful when it comes to presentations because through the collected statistical data one can bring out the analysis and understand the reasons behind the increase or decrease in productivity as compared to the base year.

5. IT (Information Technology)

IT or Information Technology is a crucial subject in every course. Everyone needs to have basic knowledge about technology and its uses because it’s the need of the hour. Even when you’re doing BBA, it is very important to cope up with the fast-changing technology as it is the demand of the future.

So, these are the subjects in the first semester of BBA. I hope this information will be helpful to you if you are willing to do BBA or you’ve taken admission in the course but haven’t been to the college yet.
