MEET THE CBSE CLASS 12TH TOPPER : RAKSHA GOPAL

Raksha Gopal, has topped the CBSE Class 12th Examination 2017 with 99.6%. She scored an astonishing 498 out of 500 marks, just 2 marks short of a perfect score. This year, nearly 10,98,891 students — 6,38,865 boys and 4,60,026 girls — had registered for the Class 12 examination, which is a 2.82 percent increase from 2016. The passing percentage this year has dipped by 1.05 percent. It has dipped to 82 percent compared to last years 83.05 percent. Raksha Gopal emerged as the topper with 99.6%. While Bhumika Sawant from DAV Public School in Chandigarh stood second with 99.4% and Aditya Jain from Bhawan Vidyalaya Chandigarh and Mannat Luthra came third at 99.2%. Raksha Gopal was an Arts Student. She scored 100 out of 100 marks in three subjects namely; English, Political Science, and Economics. In other two subjects, History and Psychology, she has scored 99 each. She is now pursuing Political Science(H) from Lady Shri Ram College. Her best of four was a stunning 99.75%, which is higher than the highest cut-off at DU this year. She had included scores of English, Economics, History and Political Science for the best four. In an interview, she said, “Political science will open a myriad of options for me. I have always loved this subject and am looking forward to broaden my horizons even further.”   Here is a picture of her bewildering marksheet :   She explains how scoring high marks in class 12th is not possible without hard work. "Out of what I have scored in class 12, 90 percent is due to hard work and the rest 10 is because of luck. Students often focus on quantity of the syllabus but it is the quality of what you have studied that helps you score in boards," said Raksha. With our country continuously trying to emphasise on the need to educate the girl child, the news of a girl topping the CBSE exam just adds to its importance. We wish Raksha Gopal all the best for her future endeavours.
