10 Interview Hacks to Get Recruited

Often, even after answering all questions correctly and having a good profile for a particular job role, candidates get rejected. They simply cannot figure out the reason for such rejection. Well, having the best technical knowledge and having an answer ready for all ‘obvious’ questions will not bag you the job. You need to build up something that lies underneath. You need to make you recruiters like you. The only means is to get little up close and personal with them and build up a rapport. Here are few tips and tricks you can follow:

  1. Greet: After entering, remember to smile and greet everyone. Even better if you can extend a firm handshake. These are very obvious but most forgotten gestures.

  1. Dress appropriately: Be careful of what you wear. Keep it simple and formal. Be likable at the first go.

  1. Initiate small talk: One should not engage in gossip and informal talk in an interview, but its absolutely okay to initiate small talks. You can ask and talk about the company’s interest, interact with the interviewer on his job role and even about the weather. But try to avoid anything irrelevant, religious or political.

  1. Find a common ground: Try to find out a common interest between you and the interviewer. Have a word about that. This will not only make you interviewer like you, but also will ease the interview.

  1. Ask and Share: Get involved. Ask questions about the job profile, share few relevant and interesting experiences. Make it a two-way discussion and not simply a Q-A session. Relax. Prepare and keep in mind some ideas or past project works, to share at the right moment. This will bring out your confident and courageous nature.

  1. Maintain the right Body language: One’s body language can say a lot about them. Be calm and poised. Do not fig-it or shake hands and legs. Do not sit in a redundant or aggressive posture. Maintain an eye contact through out. Nod your head occasionally. Blinking too much will make you seem nervous.

  1. Mirror it: Mirroring or catching up the other person’s behavior, vocal tones or even hand movements can make you likable. It establishes an untold bond. So notice your interviewers traits. For e.g. if he has a loud voice, make your voice audible enough to him. Talking in low volume can irritate him. Similarly, if he has a sense of humor and uses his hands to while talking, do the same. Use your hands to express yourself better. Siting firm and rigid in front of him might make you seem boring. However be sure to draw the line. Do not over do anything. It will seem offensive and will backfire.

  1. Listen: Master the art of listening. Follow the interviewers words. Try to use those while answering back. This will portray your interest and sincerity. Also, in case of obvious questions, it will make you seem spontaneous and not scripted.
.
  1. Do the home work: Before appearing, do a thorough research about the company and the panel of interviewers. Try to figure out their personal preferences. Some might not like your small talks while others might find your timid nature; boring. So put up the right cards for the right person. Websites like LinkedIn will help you do this homework.

  1. Thank properly: Before leaving remember to thank everyone properly. Set up a good bond and let them know that you will be waiting for the decision. Tell them that you really want this job and is hopeful of the same.
Small things can make great impacts in life and as well as in interviews. Building a rapport with the right person at the right time, can make things way easier than otherwise. So practice it all and put your best foot forward.
