"Spirituality is a guiding force which tells us the
right path to enlightenment. If we follow the universal
values of life, it beautifies our society. Mahamana Madan
Mohan Malviyaji too wanted a holistic (physical, mental,
intellectual, psychological and spiritual) development of
people. Kashi has been traditionally a place of wisdom for
ages, it has its
own significance in the area of Spirituality and Ethics
and it is good to witness a noble and timely initiative
of the Centre for Spiritualism and Human Enrichment (C-SHE)
of School of Management Sciences by organising this National
Conference which would certainly add newer dimensions in
this field". These were the opening remarks of the
Chief Guest, Honourable Vice Chancellor of Banaras
Hindu University (BHU), Prof. D. P. Singh while
inaugurating the National Conference on
"Spirituality and Ethics in Management", organised
under the banner of Centre for Spiritualism and Human Enrichment
(C-SHE), School of Management Sciences, Varanasi.
Addressing the gathering of around 100 dignitaries and delegates
from all over India and neighbouring Bhutan, in his presidential
address, Padma Shri Prof. Geshe N. Samten, Hon'ble
Vice Chancellor, Central University of Tibetan Studies,
Sarnath, Varanasi said that Spirituality is the
core element of religious culture, is related to inner growth
and inner development of individuals. "Purification
of Mind" is the core of spirituality and ethics is
manifestation of spiritual practice. Spirituality is all
about how to manage and control the inner negativities like
anger, selfishness and too much desire. In fact, the world
Leadership has realised its importance in the educational
system. All man made disastors are due to lack of spiritualism.
He congratulated SMS for such a manifestation in its campus.
He also highlighted the importance of meditation which brings
changes in the expression of genes, according to a latest
medical finding. The Guest of Honor, Prof. A. D.
N. Bajpai, Former Vice Chancellor of A P S University, Rewa
and Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Viswavidyalaya
in his blessings, stressed on the fact that spirituality
is an independent variable while ethics and management are
dependent variables.
Prof.
P. N. Jha, Director, SMS, Varanasi, in his welcome address
said that this conference will explore the mangement inputs
more proximal to the society in order to obtain sustained
human welfare. It will also explore the linkage of old thoughts
with new management practices. He further added that praxis
oriented dimensions that need exploration encompasses four
important issues : What should be the positioning of Indian
ethos in management, its course structure, its delivery
mechanism and finally developing a business model. He thanked
the visiting dignitaries for coming to SMS to share their
thoughts on the conference theme.
The Chief Guest and other dignitaries also released a book
on Leadership entitled "Essentials of Leadership-Ethics
and Spirituality" which has been Edited by Mr. Sandeep
Singh, Coordinator, C-SHE and also the latest issue
of the Journal "Management Insight". Emeritus
Prof. K. D. Tripathi presented Vote-of-Thanks on the occasion.
The Chief Guest, Prof. D. P. Singh, Prof. Geshe N, Samten
and Prof. A. D. N. Bajpai were felicitated by Dr. M. P.
Singh, Executive Secretary, SMS Society. The inaugural function
was coordinated by Dr. Meenakshi A. Singh while the theme
of the Conference was presented by Shri Sandeep Singh, Conference
Convener. The Plenary and Technical Sessions were coordinated
by Dr. Mohd. Zohair, Shri Avinash C. Supkar and Ms. Indrani
Sengupta (all faculty members, SMS). On the First day of
the National Conference, the prominent speakers in the Pleanary
and Technical Sessions included Dr. Sumedha Thero,
Assistant General Secretary, Mahabodhi Society of India,
Shri V N Rai, Ex Managing Director of KRIBHCO (Dean GSBA,
Greater
NOIDA), Prof. Vir Bhadra Mishra (Sankat Mochan Foundation,
