Prof. Michael DeWilde, Seidman College of Business visited SMS

On 29th April 2013, Prof. Michael DeWilde visited the SMS Varanasi campus to deliver his lecture to the students of SMS Varanasi. The guest lecture was organized by the Centre for Spiritualism & Human Enrichment (C-SHE) of SMS Varanasi. Prof.

Michael DeWilde is Director of the Business Ethics Center at the Seidman College of Business and an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Grand Valley State University. He is a regular speaker at conferences, the recipient of a major grant from the Kellogg Foundation, and winner of a 2007 Pew “Teaching Excellence” award.

Prof. DeWilde teaches the MBA Business Ethics course, Ethics, Theories of Human Nature, Eastern Philosophy, and the Community Working Classics seminar, which received the 2002 national award for “Excellence and Innovation in Philosophy Programs” from the American Philosophical Association. He is also now a Research Affiliate professor with the ESC Rennes School of Business, Rennes, France.

Prof. Michael DeWilde at SMS VaranasiFor many years he has taught meditation out of his home, and has consulted with West Michigan businesses as an executive coach. His work has been featured in the Grand Rapids Press, the New York Times and Inc. Magazine, among other places. He holds degrees from Harvard University and Grand Valley State University.

In the session, Prof. DeWilde interacted with students on what the western business practices can learn from the wisdom of the spiritual traditions in the East. He further pointed out the importance of spirituality and spiritual purpose in business and how business and spirituality needs to get together. He was very happy with his interaction with the students and the SMS faculty – members. He further discussed with Prof. Sandeep Singh and Mr. Anindo Bhattacharjee, the possibilities of creating joint research initiatives, study-abroad programs and student-exchange programs with the C-SHE at School of Management Sciences, Varanasi.
