Top 10 Ways to Make Your Teacher Feel Special
People say a mothers job is a thankless one. Try being a Teacher and youll realize how much worse they have it. Parents only have to deal with their own kids, but teachers have to deal with every kid out there. Kids spend a rather large portion of their days at school. I can bet that some of the bonds created with our teachers are something that we cherish our whole life.
I still remember my preschool teacher and how many times I used to bug her in a day. Teachers are those counselors in our lives who see the potential in us before anyone else. They push us to be the best version of ourselves and every teacher in our lives contributes to us being the person we become later in life. Lets take a look at how to put a smile on that precious person in our life.
10. Teachers Day
Lets start with a whole day that is dedicated to celebrating teachers. 5th September is dedicated to all the teachers out there. The day is taken after the birthdate of Dr. Ramakrishnan, one of the greatest teachers in the history. Doing the kinds of things our teacher do for us, it is only fair that they get a day to put their feet up and relax. Now what you can do is show your appreciation through many things like dedicating a speech or a poem, sing songs for them, or gift them something special. I am sure that this small act of appreciation will make their day. After all, it is not a proper celebration without things like singing, dancing, or speeches, is it?
9. Wishing Happy Birthday
Remember how much you love it when people treat you like royalty on your birthday? Well, teachers are the same as us. When I was in school, our teacher used to wish every kid on their birthday personally. If a teacher can do that for hundreds of students at once, Im sure you can do that for a few teachers that you have. See it is one of those courtesy things that doesnt take a lot of effort but it does put a smile on the other persons face for sure. So remember the next time you come to know the birthdate of a teacher. Just simply wish them or give them a gift if you want to make it extra special. Im sure they would never see it coming which makes doing it all the more worth it.
8. Common Courtesy
When I was in school, we used to stand up to show respect every morning when our class teacher entered the room. I dont know if kids still do it these days but it sure is a nice way to lift up our teachers spirit in the morning. I would like to urge all the students out there to not just do this as an obligation but as a courtesy. This practice should not be just restricted to the classrooms. In fact, it is always a sweet gesture to greet your teachers and ask them how their day is going so far may it be in the classroom or outside of it too. As I said it is again a thing that doesnt ask for a lot of effort but it really makes the teacher feel honored and valued which they always should.
7. A Note of Appreciation
Handwritten notes are a thing of the past in todays time. Gone are the days when people actually used to write handwritten letters and notes for showing gratitude. Now they just text or DM the person they want to thank and call it a day. Doing something out of the ordinary like this can really make your teacher feel special. So the next time you feel like showing your appreciation to your teacher, just grab a pen and some paper and get to writing. You dont have to write some fancy concoction or quote any famous person. Just tell them that you are thankful for the things they teach you every day. Trust me, the note will really make your teacher feel appreciated like no other gift out there.
6. A Video Montage
This is for all the students out there who suffer from crappy handwriting syndrome (like me). I did suggest writing a thank you note but I am aware that it might not be an option for every student out there. Another great idea to show your appreciation for your teachers is by making a video montage. Its a great idea for special occasions like graduations and farewells. All you need to do is switch the camera on and pour your feelings out. You can also attach some pictures of you and your teacher together at the end. Just play all the memories you have spent together so far and watch them get tears of joy right in front of you. It doesnt get more special than that, does it?
5. Being Attentive in the Classroom
You remember how much you enjoy telling someone a story when they are being an attentive audience? Its the same with teachers too. Teachers spend the majority of their days teaching us something new and innovative each and every day. What makes them really fulfilled is when their students actually hear what they are teaching. Now I know a lot of kids out there who are very good in studies but they still can be the most unattentive kid in the classroom. So I would like to tell all of you that it is a good practice to show the teacher that we care about the wisdom they are imparting to us. Do this for a week and youll see the change in your teachers attitude right there and then only.
4. Volunteering Assistance
We know a lot of teachers pets who are always keen on being a teachers aide. They do it out of their own personal gain that is maintaining a good reputation in everyone elses eyes. But what a student can do to show a teacher some appreciation is by assisting them once every now and then. Im not telling you to become a fully fledged teachers aide. But it would be a nice gesture to stay a few minutes extra after school to lend a hand to your teachers. May it be something as small as rearranging the chairs in the classroom or sorting papers out; you pitching in would really mean a lot to them.
3. Being Connected
A lot of us usually lose touch with our teachers once we graduate from school or college. We might hit like on their pictures on our social media handles every once in a while but thats the extent of our connection. What really can be special for a teacher is getting a call out of the blue from a beloved student. Think about it, our teachers spend the major part of their life in shaping us to be the best human beings possible. Now wouldnt it be nice to give them a call after graduating from your college or school? Just to catch up and see how they are doing. Trust me, it seems like a very small thing but it can sure make them reminisce about the good old times.
2. Including them in Special Events
Every teachers end goal is to see their students making it big their life. We have a lot of aspirations when we graduate from our schools and colleges. But when we do achieve something meaningful in our lives, we can turn it into something more special by including our teachers. A family dinner, an event where you are presenting a speech, or events like weddings can be great opportunities to extend invitations to our teachers. It can make them feel really special and included in your life. If you ask me, there is not a more special way than this to show appreciation to a teacher who spent so many years looking after you.
1. Following Their Teachings
The last but not the least way to honor your teacher is by leading our lives following the values they imparted on us. Now Im not telling you to turn into your teacher. But there is a timeless quality about following the path they wanted us to follow. Our teachers ultimate goal was to mold us through their values and ethics. According to me, there is not another way to honor them that is better than this. This will carry on their legacy throughout all their students. Dont believe me? Ask your teacher what she thinks of this thought and youll know what I am talking about.
That was the list guys. I know most of us forget to show gratitude to all the guidance counselors of our life. May it be our parents or may it be our teachers. Just remember, it doesnt take a lot of time or resources to do most of the things on this list but they sure will make your teachers feel really special and appreciated.
